Life, with its unpredictable turns, often leaves us in awe of its unfolding mysteries. As I reflect on my past, one particular adventure stands out: a journey that began with a twist of fate when I was just 17. Stranded unexpectedly on a different continent, my intended trip to London veered off course, landing me in a situation that would profoundly shape my understanding of community and connection.
My excitement for London was quickly dashed when I learned at the airport that my connecting flight was a scam. Holding a worthless ticket without a penny, I stepped out of the airport into the unknown. Here I was, a 17-year-old, in an unfamiliar land, barely grasping the local language, Arabic, which was then just a few words I knew.
